Reflection

Emily Czerw ENC2135 0181 Ms. Adams 04/28/2023 Electronic Portfolio          The main lesson this course has taught me was what rhetorical pieces were. Before this class, I never wrote a rhetorical essay nor did a project on one. In projects two and three, we had to use rhetorical artifacts and rhetorical rationales. With that, we also had to use the correct terminology, such as medium, pathos, ethos, logos, exigence, constraints, etc., and I have never even heard of those terms before in an English class setting. Now, if I ever have to conduct any rhetorical analyses, I will be much more informed about the topic because of this class.           Another lesson I learned is to attend more office hours and look at assignments at the beginning of the week. I found myself confused on some of the project directions because it was harder to understand reading them online than hearing them in p...

Revision for project 1

Image
For project 1, I turned in the first draft of my introduction. After I got feedback on my draft, I went to the Writing Center in the library because I had a lot to fix. The first paragraph shown below is the original introduction I had.  The second paragraph shown below is my revised version after getting feedback and going to the Writing Center. This is an example of how I used revision and editing in one of my major projects. This project was the investigative field essay. This specific component was the introduction to that essay. Other parts of the essay were also revised, but this component was the one that needed the most work done on it. I changed the tone from a personal perspective to a scientific perspective.

The mental health problem has become an epidemic to our society. Thankfully, people started speaking out about it, however, with men, it seems like we’ve taken almost no action. There is a lot of stigma surrounding men's mental health, and our goal is to encourage people to speak out, seek help, listen, and help break the stigma.        The first genre of this campaign is going to be a poster. The poster will be hung around middle schools, high schools, and universities. T...

Investigative Field Essay

Emily Czerw ENC2135 0181 Ms. Adams 02/15/2023 Investigative field essay The Contributing Factors to the Increase in Depression and Anxiety Disorders       Researchers at Columbia University reviewed a study regarding the increase in anxiety and depression disorders. “The results show that depression increased significantly among persons in the U.S. from 2005 to 2015, from 6.6 percent to 7.3 percent. Notably, the rise was most rapid among those ages 12 to 17, increasing from 8.7 percent in 2005 to 12.7 percent in 2015,” (Weinberger 1). In just ten years, depression rates have gone up 4% in teenagers. When I look online or talk to my peers, I notice kids and young adults riddled with anxiety or depression now more than ever. The United States is facing an epidemic of mental health disorders. My goal is to investigate what is contributing to the increase in these disorders amongst adolescents. With the increase in the levels of anxiety and depression am...
